Speakers from the community, and outside, are brought in to share their story. At Design Summit, you will be just as inspired by the person sitting next to you as the person speaking on stage. That is because we attract some of the most amazing leaders, thinkers and doers; including top startup CEOs, best-selling authors, award-winning artists, entrepreneurs, business owners and world-class speakers. The best part is, you will have the opportunity to network with all of them in open settings that enable strong connections and amazing bonds; be it in the ballroom, over lunch or at one of our unconference sessions. It is this support network that can make the difference between closing up shop and pushing through to success.

Founder Bamboo House India

I am a Serial Social Entrepreneur from India. I am in my second social venture. My First Social venture is “Bamboo House India” – www.bamboohouseindia.org, which mainly works in ” Sustainable bamboo based livelihoods and low cost prefabricated bamboo shelter solutions. Our focus is in utilising bamboo as an economic driver for providing sustainable livelihood opportunities at the base of economic pyramid and promote bamboo as an eco friendly substitute to to wood, steel, iron & plastic. There are various resources in local communities which if harnessed through joint community, corporate, governments and CSO partnerships, based on capacity building and value added activities, can be the basis for providing increased sustainable livelihoods to the poor. Bamboo falls within at least three distinct areas:

1) Natural resources

2) social development and

3) economic development.

Bamboo is part of bio diversity and a source of our country’s floristic wealth; it provides ecological services; and is a commodity that can be used and sold providing employment and income opportunities. My Second Social Venture – RECYCLED INDIA – works towards addressing the burning issue of urban scrap and waste – mainly unused tyres and drums, more than a million tyres across the globe are dumped in landfills and water streams and no concrete solution is available to address this problem, through our venture we are trying add vaue to scrap and create livelihoods in the process and support environment.

Sanath Reddy
Founder Moonwalkr

Of the 20-odd cricket gear brands in the world, 18 are manufactured in the pockets of Jalandhar and Meerut. So essentially the world’s cricket goods market is hostage to the design, materials and technology coming out of these two cities in India. And it’s stuck there because they’ve figured out how to churn out products at extremely competitive price points,” says Sanath Reddy, the 30-year-old founder and director of Moonwalkr, maker of a new cricket leg guard which entered the markets earlier this month.

But was there really a need for a new type of cricket leg pads, since the old ones seemed to have been serving players pretty well, without too many voices being raised in complaint? The issue, argues Ajay YJ, co-founder of Moonwalkr and Reddy’s childhood friend, was with the way its function was perceived. A batsman faces cricket balls hurled at him at speeds of over 130 kmph and then also has to run quickly between the wickets . “We saw an opportunity because we realised that protection should not be at the cost of speed and mobility. For instance, there is a lot of difference when you run with and without pads on,” says Ajay who came on board at the prototype stage. “We looked at the function of the batsman as a whole, so our leg guards are not just protective gear — they offer protection with mobility and speed.
